How long have you been working for Dimension Data? I’ve been here for nine years.
Why did you choose this company? I was working at a petrochemical company when Dimension Data were brought in to implement a network. I found the Dimension Data people to be intelligent, self-motivated and results-driven. I was attracted by the company’s entrepreneurial spirit and the freedom that employees were given to get on with their work. It was an environment to flourish in. As soon as rollout was completed, I moved over to Dimension Data.
What keeps you here? The interesting and varied projects I do!
What cool stuff have you done? I was once given the opportunity to set up the technical infrastructure for the Port of Cape Town for the Volvo Ocean Race (then Whitbread). This premier global race is one of the most demanding team sporting events in the world. During the nine months of the race, seven teams of 11 professional crew race over 37,000 nautical miles of the world’s most treacherous seas. It was a thrilling project to be part of.
I’m now working in Angola, implementing the largest IP telephony system in the country. It’s a challenging work environment, but thrilling to be pushing the technological boundaries here in West Africa.
What’s been one of your greatest moments during your career with us? My greatest moment was probably the day we stepped off the drill ships in 2006, having implemented the first IP telephony network for the offshore oil drilling arm of a major global energy company.
What has your career path looked like? I joined as an engineer working on Systems Network Architecture. I then moved from frame relay equipment into networking, routing and switching and then into voice. |
