david gold: the beacon foundation
The Beacon Foundation
is a national not-for-profit (NFP) organisation that seeks to influence the
attitudes and culture of Australians so that each young person develops an
independent will to achieve personal success for themselves and their
community. The foundation relies on sponsors to provide monetary contributions
and in-kind support.
One
of Beacon’s central activities is a program called ‘No Dole’, which aims to
educate under-privileged teenagers to break the cycle of generational
unemployment.
David
Gold, NSW Managed Services Manager at Dimension Data mentors Beacon’s NSW
State Manager, Jane Artup.
“Jane
works alone, unlike people at Dimension Data. So when problems arise, or she
wants to bounce an idea around, she’s got no-one,” says Gold.
“Mentoring
Jane has been mutually beneficial. We have structured meetings once a month
and I can impart to her the knowledge and skills I have learnt here. Being
involved in something that’s not corporate has opened my eyes and it’s great
to use the lessons I’ve learned at Dimension Data and apply them in the
community.
“I
get caught up in the day-to-day corporate life and seeing what goes on
outside my comfort zone makes me realise how lucky I am."
