our environment
“At
this time of global climate change and diminishing natural resources,
Dimension Data is committed to responsible environmental stewardship and
sustainable business practices.”
Merle Singer, Director of Culture and Reputation, Dimension Data
Dimension
Data has had a Corporate Sustainability Policy in place since 2005 which
ensures all stakeholders are aware of the environmental impact of our
corporate activities and that appropriate mitigating actions are being
implemented. Among other measures, in May 2008 we submitted a robust carbon
strategy to the Carbon
Disclosure Project and, globally, the business is developing Carbon-Friendly Infrastructure services and solutions to
help our clients reduce their environmental footprint.
When
Dimension Data’s CSR program launched in Australia in 2004, staff indicated
the environment was a big concern for them and their families, and an area
where they were eager to make a difference with Dimension Data’s support.
Since
that time, Dimension Data has twice joined with award-winning environmental
education organisation OzGREEN
to establish the Living Communities program. Living Communities teaches staff
members about environmental issues and concrete steps to limit their impact
at work and at home. Mike Ceola, Technical Consultant at Dimension Data,
participated in the Living Communities program. Find out what the program
taught Mike and his family here.
To reinforce messages from Living
Communities, Dimension Data launched an internal website to all staff with
tips and resources for greener living. In 2007, an environmental think-tank
was established, led by enthusiastic staff members, to champion creative
ideas and engage with staff and partners on how to reduce Dimension Data’s
impact on the environment.

Across
our Australian branches, Dimension Data recycles waste materials and strives
to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources. We have recycling programs
in place for mobile phones and recycled printer paper is used in most
branches. Old computers and unused equipment is recycled or refurbished for
donation to not-for-profit organisations. Also, Dimension Data’s Adelaide,
Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney offices participated in Earth
Hour 2008. Read more about our participation here.
In
2008, Dimension Data recently expanded its employee engagement efforts by
launching ‘Zerofootprint’.
Zerofootprint provides a customised online calculator for staff members to
measure their individual carbon footprints, at the same time allowing users
to set reduction goals, and providing advice on ways to achieve this.
Zerofootprint has been embraced enthusiastically by staff and the data
collected will be used by Dimension Data to create awareness and encourage
debate on ways staff can reduce their impact on climate change.
