what we do
Dimension
Data has supported many not-for-profit organisations over the years and, in
2000, was the inaugural founder of the IT Fund for Kids, a national
fundraising initiative for companies within the IT&T industry to support
programs which improve the quality of life for seriously ill and autistic
children. [http://www.itfundforkids.com.au]
In
2004 we launched a formal Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program to
engage and involve our staff in more innovative ways with not-for-profit
organisations (NFPs) and community groups. We wanted to give our people the
chance to use their considerable skills, expertise and enthusiasm in a
community context, whilst being supported by the wider Dimension Data
business.
From
this emerged our ‘Heads, Hearts and Hands’ program through which, in 2007,
staff volunteer efforts equated to $300,000 in people hours.
Within
the framework of our national CSR strategy, Dimension Data chooses to nurture
local and regional community causes that are important to our staff.
Volunteer team leaders in each Australian State work with a self-selected
volunteer committee to manage and drive regional volunteering efforts.
At
the inception of the program, our employees chose children, education and the
environment as the causes about which they were most passionate. Find out
more about the NFPs and projects we are involved with in each of these areas:
Community
Leadership
It is
important to Dimension Data to not only build our people’s skills for today,
but also to develop our high-potential and aspirant leaders for tomorrow. We
offer social leadership programs to our staff which encourage them to act
strategically, think globally and make long-term decisions. In 2006 and 2007,
our commitment to these programs was estimated at over $350,000 in training
and staff time.
Business
mentoring is an important part of this leadership development. David Gold,
Manager of NSW Managed Services at Dimension Data, mentors at an NFP called
The Beacon Foundation, and finds it rewarding and eye-opening to be involved
in a context that is not corporate. You can read David Gold’s story here.
Fundraising
Our
staff members are actively engaged in diverse fundraising activities across
Australia. Some of the activities we supported or were involved with in 2007
include: National Tree Day; Red Nose Day; Cancer Council Australia Pink
Ribbon Day and Daffodil Day; CanTeen; National Ride to Work Day; Christmas
survival packs for the Wesley Mission; Starlight Day; Marymead Child and
Family Centre; Juvenile Diabetes Walk to Cure Diabetes; Movember for Prostate
Cancer and Beyondblue; and Kilometres 4 Kids for the John MacLean Foundation.
