client success stories
Máxima Medisch Centrum
The Máxima Medisch Centrum has one of the top teaching hospitals in the
Netherlands. The challenge they faced was to replace the current IP telephony
system as well as introduce wireless communication for a large group of
employees. Dimension Data provided a solution which made it easier to
retrieve patient’s data using mobile technology at bedside thereby increasing
doctors' and nurses' productivity to provide better and quicker patient care.
The new infrastructure also lends itself to the expansion of patient
services, such as interactive television or bedside Internet facilities.
Manchester United
Manchester United was faced with the realisation that their manually based
catering operations at Old Trafford stadium needed to be replaced with a
centralised EPoS solution. The most cost effective way to provide this data
communication platform was via Wireless LAN technology. Dimension Data
implemented a sophisticated Wireless LAN with access points placed across the
entire stadium, box corridors, suite areas, and other likely points of sale
to help serve 67,000 fans. Manchester United’s employees realised the
productivity and flexibility benefits of a wireless EPoS system. The
intelligent wireless stadium also delivers additional revenue earning and
cost saving opportunities, by linking the network to other building management
systems or applications Additionally, when employees recently needed to be
moved from their offices into other sections of the stadium (due to stadium
expansion), they were easily accommodated, as access to corporate resources
was readily available via the wireless network.
Boston Public Library
The Boston Public Library (BPL) was the first large, free municipal library in
the United States and overlooks the city’s popular Copley Square. The BPL
team wanted to upgrade their communications infrastructure to provide
Internet access to employees and patrons. The challenge was much of the space
was unsuitable for housing wired technology. Another key consideration was
security as patrons included both adults and children. Dimension Data’s
solution was to implement a wireless infrastructure avoiding the use of wired
network equipment and enabling patrons to use their own wireless devices to
access and download information. The solution also segregates children’s
access to the Internet from that of the adults in order to minimise the risk
of exposing children to unsuitable web sites. The design also ensures the
network will not be comprised by unauthorised access by curious patrons. This
wireless connectivity has since been extended outdoors enabling patrons to
download information onto their own laptops from the open air of Copley
Square.
