Hosted Compute

For organisations either contemplating or currently enjoying the benefits of virtualisation, our Hosted Compute Service is the logical next step. Hosted Compute provides a scalable, secure, virtualised environment which an organisation can leverage to deliver IT infrastructure as a service into their enterprise. You can access servers, storage, CPU and memory as a service, securely connected into your corporate network.

With Dimension Data’s Hosted Compute services once established, you can provision resources in real time to match your organisation’s fluctuating needs. You can access computing resources on demand that are scalable, usage billed and fully managed, based on the industry’s leading virtualisation platforms – Microsoft Hyper V, VMware vSphere, Citrix Zen, Oracle VirtualBox and KVM. It is by far the fastest way to get an enterprise securely enabled in the cloud.

A virtual data centre

Dimension Data’s Hosted Compute management portal enables you to rapidly deploy and manage a cloud-based virtual data centre. You can directly manage your own virtual servers and networks – create, manage, stop, start, upgrade and downgrade your virtual servers. Each virtual machine can be assigned CPU, memory and storage resources, which you can scale up or down as required. You can also use one or more virtual networks and assign servers to virtual networks (VLANs). Each component has a fixed price and you only pay for the resources you use.

Comprehensive reporting

Dimension Data’s Hosted Compute service includes powerful reporting tools to measure utilisation for CPU, memory and storage for each running virtual machine. You can manage workloads and upgrade or downgrade server resources as you need.

Reduce costs

Using a Hosted Compute service to move physical servers into the cloud can reduce IT costs while improving flexibility and responsiveness. You can:

• reduce hardware and operating costs

• reduce energy costs

• reduce the time it takes to provision new servers

• add high availability and redundancy into your server design

• reduce hardware requirements by potentially up to a 10:1 ratio depending on each unique situation

• reduce training

Key benefits

• Virtual infrastructure costs can easily be measures and charged back to departments, office locations or teams

• CIOs can assign budgets and retain financial control over virtual infrastructure

• Flexibility – easy management, fast provisioning and deployment

• Scalability – you can scale resources up or down according your needs

• On-demand – resources can be rapidly provisioned and deployed without capital investments.

• High availability – fully redundant and clustered hardware platform minimise downtime and eliminates the need for standby hardware or software

• Geographically distributed – virtual servers can be replicated across multiple locations to provide true fault tolerance
