SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Ongoing training and skills development is the bedrock of transformation, and an imperative for any company hoping to develop a competitive edge. Dimension Data recognises the long-term benefits of managing its talent base, keeping employees motivated and developing skills.

For example, to build a competent management team, Dimension Data sponsors a number of management development programmes. 40% of the participants of these development programmes are black managers. Programmes include the Essential Managers’ Series, Effective People Management Courses and the Management Development Programme run through Manchester University and the University of Stellenbosch.

The Executives’ commitment to transformation ensures that our management development programmes go beyond affirmative action to real empowerment and the meaningful advancement of previously disadvantaged individuals.

Additionally, in terms of skills development, Dimension Data sponsors and provides Learnerships for at least 20 black learners per annum in a SETA-approved Learnership programme.

An important component of our policy is the raising of awareness of the benefits and challenges of transformation.  As such, the company sponsors key learning initiatives targeted at raising this awareness. Courses include BEE 101 - a Conversation on Transformation, Diversity Awareness, and language instruction as a way to break cultural and communication barriers - currently we are rolling out Zulu lessons to employees in our Gauteng offices.
