Position Summary and Primary Objectives

The primary objective of the Solution Architect will be to understand the customer’s pain points, translate that into a technical solution to fix the problem and work closely with the salesman to close the deals in the Data Centre and Storage line of business.

Main Duties / Key Accountabilities

·   Meet with customers and prospects to understand their current issues

·   Prepare a solution in terms of a proposal, technically sound configuration,  diagram and present via Powerpoint back to the customer.

·   Assist the sales team to close the deal

·   Carry a gross profit target for the deals sold against which this person will be measured

Requirements: Education, Training and Experience

·   Minimum 2 years doing solution architecture (sometime referred to as pre-sales or product management) work for another IT reseller, distributor  or vendor e.g. Resellers: Stortech, Lechabile, Faritec, Cornerstone, Datacentrix, Al Indigo, Aptronics , BCX, Source Consulting, Sithabile, Bytes Technology Group (BTG), GijimaAST, Shoden Data Systems, New Dawn Technologies ; Distributors: Channel Data, Workgroup, DCC, Storgate; Vendors: CA, IBM, HP, Symantec, ADIC Africa, EMC Legato, Attix5

·   Experience with either storage (e.g. EMC, HP, HDS, IBM), servers, (e.g. HP, Dell, IBM etc.), virtualisation software (e.g VMware, MS Virtual Server), cluster software (e.g. Symantec, Microsoft Cluster) or backup software (e.g. Symantec Netbackup, EMC Legato Networker, IBM TSM etc.) is required.

·   Must be competent in the consulting and design of enterprise server, storage, backup and archiving solutions, including skills in virtualization, in a Microsoft environment

·   Some sort of base operating system technical grounding e.g. MCSE or Solaris certification would be an ideal requirement.

·   Formal vendor training and certifications need to be detailed

·   School or tertiary education results are needed
