Investing in our youth
At NTT DATA, we’re committed to making a positive impact on our communities. We aim to make a difference in the areas of education, job opportunities and economic growth by constantly seeking new and innovative ways of using technology to change the lives of young people.
Over the past 30 years, we have run a Saturday School program in South Africa which has assisted thousands of high-school learners improve their marks and achieve excellent results in matric.
The program runs every Saturday of the school calendar year and offers supplemental education in subjects relating to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to Grade 11 and 12 learners from underserved communities. This enhances their prospects for tertiary education and success in both their learning and careers.
The Saturday School currently supports 100 learners each year in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Based on its success, a pilot program was rolled out in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, in 2020. From supporting 11 Grade 11 learners, it’s grown to support a total of 40 Grade 11 and 12 learners.
Most of our learners have become qualified professionals and entrepreneurs. Some have joined NTT DATA through our graduate programs.
2024 matric results
Our Johannesburg matriculants achieved a 100% pass rate, 98% university admission and 99 distinctions from 50 learners.
Our Gqeberha matriculants achieved a 100% pass rate, with 85% university admissions and 26 distinctions from 20 learners.
“The Saturday School is one of the initiatives we are proud of as a company. We partner with local schools and communities to provide extra classes and mentorship for learners from underserved communities. This program helps learners with STEM subjects, and introduces them to coding, robotics, career guidance, entrepreneurship, and wellness coaching. We want them to stand in their authentic selves and contribute to society to make South Africa and Africa great.”
