Dimension Data launches first Client Innovation Centre to bring cutting edge tech down under

Sydney, Australia, 1 August 2018Dimension Data, an $8 billion global leader in designing, optimising, and managing today’s evolving technology environments, today opened its first Client Innovation Centre (CIC) to give Australian organisations access to cutting-edge technology innovation and new collaborative opportunities.

The centre, housed at Dimension Data’s new Australian headquarters in Darling Park Sydney, showcases a number of technologies and solutions co-innovated with NTT Group and the wider Australian business, government and academic community. Dimension Data predicts that the CIC will lead to the creation of 150-200 new roles and contribute to Australia’s technology innovations and export opportunities in the next 2-3 years.

Dimension Data, a subsidiary of NTT Group, is a major global company that delivers high-quality solutions for clients in Australia and around the world. Dimension Data is working together with NTT — which invests about $2 billion a year in R&D — to bring the best research and innovations to Australia, to be commercialised alongside local organisations, such as Deakin University and Western Sydney University.

The innovations showcased at the CIC are a subset of the NTT R&D portfolio and demonstrate the ‘art of the possible’ in addressing specific current or future market opportunities. They include:

  • FLAIM Trainer®: An immersive, virtual reality firefighter training simulator with bio-sensing and real time scenario analytics — Developed through research at Deakin University, FLAIM Trainer® is an immersive VR and haptics feedback simulation that provides firefighters with the ability to train for dangerous scenarios that are hard to reproduce in reality, expensive and are environmentally harmful. It incorporates a patented digital bio-sensing fabric developed by NTT called hitoe™, which provides real-time data readings of vitals (heart rate, stress, fatigue) When aggregated with skills demonstrated and other data generated, instructors can assess and benchmark a trainee’s “fitness to fight” on any given fire scenario.
  • Mass Data Observations: A secure research ecosystem — Dimension Data and Western Sydney University have co-developed a secure and open platform for collaborative data-driven research that revolutionises the way organisations engage with communities and conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis and research. Communities can include students, citizens, customers, patients, employees and other stakeholders. The Mass Data Observations eco-system engages communities to contribute data for research or analysis and provides a secure, intelligent data services platform that automates much of the data curation and governance involved in bringing multiple sources of data together for analysis. The platform enables data to be aggregated from multiple sources at the same time meeting all privacy and ethical requirements, so analysts can ask new questions and gain new insight from data available from communities of data collectors, IoT sensors, open data, existing research data sets and other multiple feeds and inputs.
  • San-Shi: A secure computation platform — As an additional capability to the Mass Data Observations platform, San-Shi uses secret sharing and secure multi-party computation principles to allow researchers to aggregate and analyse massive data sets without ever revealing the source data to the analyst, who only receives the output results. San-Shi is able to achieve this secure computation cost-effectively and rapidly, making it more accessible to researchers here in Australia.
  • Tour de France: Reaching new audiences and monetising data products through live tracking, data analytics, and machine learning — With sensors and a transponder fitted to every bike used at the Tour de France this year, Dimension Data’s data analytics platform incorporates machine learning and complex algorithms that combine live and historical race data with other data inputs to provide deep levels of insight such as predicting winners at each stage and tracking each rider’s progress and performance in real-time during each stage for the race’s global audience, the teams competing, race officials and the media.
  • Kirari!: An immersive holographic simulation — Imagine experiencing any sporting or cultural event, presentation or speech from anywhere in the world, together with a live audience as if you were there? Developed in NTT’s R&D laboratories, Kirari! captures live action in high-definition video and audio, transmitting that to remote locations to display in real-time in 360-degreee video and virtual surround sound audio. Kirari! can be experienced across a range of formats, from life-size in a theatre or stadium to a TV size viewing box and a mobile viewing box.
  • The Digital customer experience: As organisations shift towards digital and as customer’s first choice preferences shift more to online self-service, a frictionless experience becomes a competitive differentiator, in fact, it is an imperative. The correct blending of AI-based support for self-service, such as chatbots, with human service agents, ensures a smooth omni-channel customer experience (CX) and builds more enduring relationships. Designing and embedding AI-based, customer-centric services into an organisation’s systems of engagement is a key capability domain for enterprises transforming from analogue to digital.
