NTT celebrated at the World Communication Awards 2020

Global services provider celebrated for its innovative approach to the development of smart cities and commitment to building a more sustainable future London – 29 October 2020 –  NTT today announced that it is the proud winner of two awards at the World Communication Awards (WCA). The awards include the ‘Environmental Impact Award’ and the ‘Smart Cities Award’, and they celebrate NTT’s achievements in using technology to create innovative services and make the world a better place.

Launched in 1999 at the height of the telecom boom, the WCAs recognise innovation and excellence across the global telecoms industry and are revered across the sector. These award wins highlight NTT’s tech for good approach as well as the positive impact the company has on technology, business and the world.

The ‘Environmental Impact Award’ was presented to NTT for its admirable commitment to a sustainable future. By dramatically increasing the use of renewables and through the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, NTT has enabled greater energy efficiency across its own and client-operated sites.

This commitment has allowed the company to focus on becoming carbon neutral through its operations globally, over the medium term. NTT will continue to track its progress against 30 targets and Key Performance Indicators in line with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition to this, the ‘Smart Cities Award’ was given to NTT for its transformation of Las Vegas’ Innovation District, which was created to “provide safe, reliable and efficient civic technology that stimulates economic growth.” Working alongside Dell Technologies, NTT developed the ‘Accelerating Smart’ solution, providing Las Vegas with valuable insights into patterns to make better public safety decisions for the future.

The project demonstrated that smart cities are not just a concept, but a comprehensive way to deliver value for society. In addition to this, the partnership has ensured Las Vegas is at the forefront of technology, leveraging the most recent innovations to provide safe, reliable and efficient civic technology that stimulates economic growth and protects citizens and residents.

“We are proud to be recognized for these awards and our ongoing commitment to making the world a better place through the power of technology”, said Jason Goodall, Global Chief Executive Officer for NTT Ltd. “The wins are testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams globally, as well as true partnerships with our clients – we have shown through these projects that together we can do great things. As we all navigate the new normal, we have an opportunity to build a better, connected future. With innovation, the possibilities to use technology for good are endless.”
