Excited bustle prevailed at our Vienna 1 Data Center when Austria's Federal Minister for Digitization and Business Location Margarete Schramböck visited our site. For us, this is a strong signal. Austria has recognized that digitization is crucial for the future of the country and its people. Despite a tight schedule, the Federal Minister did not miss the opportunity to assess the construction progress on our Vienna 1 campus.

Investment in the future

Walter Kasal, Head of the Regions Austria & Switzerland of the Global Data Centers Division of NTT Ltd., explained the essential features of the new building C to the experienced manager and politician. The minister was just as interested in the extensive measures taken to ensure the security of the data center as she was in the ecological aspects of the new building. And for good reason: The state of Austria is subsidizing the new building as part of its current economic program. Margarete Schramböck explains: ’Digitization and digital technologies are crucial for the competitiveness of our country. With the investment premium, we have therefore particularly supported investments in digital and sustainable transformation. As you can see, this premium is well invested! In this way, we are securing Austria's position as a top business location and domestic jobs in all regions of Austria.’

Flexible into the cloud

Vienna has increasingly become a center of digitization in recent years. Numerous international companies have discovered the location for themselves as the ‘Gateway to the East’ with favourable electricity prices and an attractive environment. In addition, politics is pushing a variety of initiatives with regard to the digitization of administration, and projects such as Smart City Wien are attracting international attention. The steady growth is also reflected in our data center: the existing 5,600m² of IT space in Vienna 1 is largely leased, and the expansion to a total of 8,600+m² is eagerly awaited by many. Especially for organizations that require larger IT spaces, building C is very attractive. Walter Kasal is convinced: ’In the current IDC study on cloud architectures and cloud infrastructures in the DACH region, more than a third of the companies indicated said they wanted to comprehensively modernize their own infrastructure. We are clearly feeling this trend. With us, prospective clients will find the connectivity, flexibility and security they are looking for.’

Opening in summer 2022

The Federal Minister's visit confirms NTT's belief in the importance of further expanding capacity at the Vienna 1 site. We’re already looking forward to the official opening of the new building in the summer of 2022.
