Unified identity management platform powers Flutter’s digital transformation strategy

With such an array of brands, all using their own unique tools, building a single identity management and access platform was critical to Flutter’s plan to deliver a unified set of services to their employees across the world.

Together we deployed Okta, an identity management platform, to provide their 20,000 global team members with a single tool for managing access to all their applications and data. This allows them to ensure that their teams can work from anywhere, across any of their brands, with access to the tools and information they need.

New employees can be quickly added to Okta and granted access to all the relevant applications across the group. Similarly when access to any given system is no longer required, these permissions are automatically revoked.

Client profile:

Flutter Entertainment is the world’s largest online sports betting and gaming operator with a portfolio of globally recognized brands, including Sky Betting & Gaming, FanDuel and Sportsbet, and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 index on the London Stock Exchange.

Creating a unified, global platform

Flutter own and operate numerous high-profile, global gaming sites, and the security of these platforms, as well as their internal systems, is of the utmost importance. After acquiring multiple companies over the past few years, Flutter embarked on a program of consolidation and shared services. By focusing on creating platforms that enable them to deploy global policies, Flutter have laid themselves foundation for future growth.

Identity management is a critical foundation of their "One Workplace" program enabling their 20,000 users to access any application they need, from anywhere in the world.

To achieve this, they selected Okta as their preferred platform, leveraging the industry-leading technology to securely manage access to all their internal applications and services.

"Unified identity management is an essential part of providing our colleagues with secure access to the applications they need to do their jobs. Achieving this is critical to the success of our transformation strategy," says Paul Cutter, Chief Information Officer, Flutter.

To ensure that the deployment of the solution went smoothly they were looking for a partner who could quickly adapt to their changing needs.

"Working with NTT allowed us to deliver this solution to our global team in a flexible and agile way. NTT’s global footprint and ability to understand local needs were critical to the success of the program," says Tony Stokes, Director of Global Services, Flutter.

Seamless access to applications and data

Flutter were looking for a partner who would be able to adapt the solution to meet their needs and, after an extensive evaluation, they selected NTT to deliver this.

Operating as a single team, the NTT team in Ireland worked closely with NTT Security to create an agile solution that took Flutter’s specific requirements into account.

Following an initial consulting engagement, we were able to create a seamless and flexible solution that matched their expectations.

The solution needed to be deployed worldwide covering their four regions and their group operations, but it also needed to accommodate local regulations.

Leveraging Okta allows Flutter’s users to connect to their applications and data securely, providing them with an audit trail of what data and applications have been accessed by each user.

These applications support both their global business as well as their development environment, the latter of which is crucial in ensuring their consumer-facing brands remain secure.

With disparate operations across the world, each with their own concerns and requirements, this unified approach allowed them to ensure that they met the needs of all stakeholders.

A future-proof platform geared for growth

Working together, the Flutter and NTT teams have ensured that Flutter now have an identity management and authentication platform that will support their global business objectives. This provides them with a future-proof foundation for all their applications, supporting the growth ambitions of the company.

Single identity

All Flutter employees are linked to their applications and data through a single system, regardless of the brand specific identity the employee holds. This enables them to connect seamlessly at any time, wherever they are in the world.

Automated processes

With a single platform, Flutter can ensure that all employees are automatically granted access to the relevant applications, making the onboarding of new employees seamless. At the same time, when people leave, all their permissions can be withdrawn from a single point.

Reduced risks

With multiple high-profile consumer brands, environments are secure. By controlling who has access to these critical systems they’re able minimize security risks.
